The brief
Artisanal Futures comes out of the Center for Generative Justice. The idea is a community-based economy — one that returns value to the people who make things, instead of to big platforms that take a cut of every sale.
That needed a home online for Detroit's small and worker-owned businesses: somewhere customers could find their shops, products, and services, and somewhere artisans could share tools and knowledge with each other. And it had to stay free. The platform charges no fees and handles no transactions — buyers go straight to each artisan's own site.
There was nothing to start from, so I designed and built it from the ground up, launched it in 2023, and I've kept it running and growing since.
